Orfeo
OTC’s Orfeo is another little triumph in the face of continuing adverse circumstances for opera in Ireland Irish Theatre Magazine
Ireland’s premier purveyor of quality operatic productions. Opera Britannia
For over 400 years, the dramatic music and raw emotional power of this baroque masterpiece has remained undiminished. With Orfeo, Monteverdi created the first great opera that not only survived the centuries, but still enthralls a modern audience. Melancholy has been banished now that Orfeo has at last found true love. In the company of his joyful acolytes, the wedding day celebrations have already begun and Orfeo is poised to marry his beloved Euridice. Then disaster strikes: Can our desperate hero dare to rescue his lover or will he throw his life away in an impossible contest with Death itself?

"OTC has an enviable record of touring shows to parts of Ireland which might see only one live opera per year in their area, if they’re lucky. Long may that crucial commitment to touring continue you feel personally involved … consistent pleasure… in a compellingly communicative fashion "
"OTC was successful … sounding good, the players led the way… a persuasive and authentic sound-world full of beautiful early baroque colours and idiom under the incisive and fluent direction of Andrew Synnott. The production’s great triumph is its wonderful look "
"Full of imaginative touches, careful thought has obviously gone into OTC’s production in the very capable hands of Ben Barnes. An absorbing experience. Visually, vocally and instrumentally this Orfeo is an object lesson in complementary theatrical teamwork "
